Blouse - Theory (here)
Dress - thanks to Banana Republic (unfortunately sold out but similar one in textured fabric here, similar splurge-worthy leather version here)
Jacket - H&M
Ring - BCBG
Rose gold cap-toe flats - Messeca thanks to Collective Habit (here)
Purse - Chanel
In trying to prove that leather dresses can possibly be worn for work, I made sure that this one was tailored (but not tight!), buttery soft (and not patent!), and paired with items that would help tone it down (a collared blouse says business while flats make it more approachable).
I recently found myself at a much more casual work environment, so although I feel thoroughly comfortable wearing this to work... I want to know: would you?
PS: I've been slowly but surely(!) listing some favorite items from my closet on Poshmark in lieu of another blog sale, and I'm convinced it's the way to go from now on! Please join me as I "host" one of their in-app Posh Parties tonight at 7pm (more details here)! Download the free iPhone app here and hope to "see" you in the app! (I'll be listing more items during the party!)

This is not only TOTALLY work appropiate, but I would wear it ALL and come to work tomorrow!!!!Can you send the outfit to Greece in one day? No?? okay, I can wait 2 days!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your chic style.always.
I love this look and have loved this dress since it came out at BR. I think it looks great together and I think you found a way to make it work appropriate.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteI've worn a leather skirt (similar finish to yours) with a chambray shirt and nude heels to work. The chambray definitely toned it down, and worn with pearls the skirt was more "I have interesting style and am an interesting person" than "I have no idea how to dress appropriately for work!"
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure I need that jacket. But the dress, I don't think I could pull it off for work.
ReplyDeleteWork appropriate!
ReplyDeleteThe way you styled that amazing dress is totally work appropriate! I would wear it in a heart beat. It seems like a great piece that could easily be dressed up for a night out too!
ReplyDeletewww.beautyandbows.com
I think it all depends on the environment your working in. A leather dress is probably not the best idea for a very formal office, but in a more casual or creative industry it is an amazing piece. This particular one is beautiful and the styling is definitely work appropriate. Thanks for the inspiration!

As I was scrolling through the photos I thought that maybe the question was:
ReplyDelete"Would you...want this jacket? Yes."
"Would you...want this dress? Yes."
"Would you...want these shoes? Yes."
Great look -
The more casual environment will take getting used to - but should be a great way to change up your looks and play with the outfits that worked for you in the last workplace...I'd love to see some of your old outfits "remixed" for the new dress-code!

You did this perfectly! The blouse under was a great call, and the wool jacket takes the attention away from the leather. It just looks like a sleek, professional office dress :)

That leather dress is killer!
ReplyDeletewww.gbofashion.com!
The way you styled it here works perfectly at work!! I definitely would if it was a more casual work place. Or maybe if I were a manager I would! But at lower positions it might be frowned upon..?

ReplyDeleteI have that exact dress! I wore it to work last week with a white button down and a pair of python pumps. It was perfect for the office, fun but not too much fun!
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE this look! You're so beautiful. xo
ReplyDeleteUmm... I don't know... maybe too much even for me and I wore a red leather skirt to the office just yesterday. That said... you look fantastic here! It would not seem out of place to me at all.

love the silhouet of the jacket. so beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree that I would wear that to work! Your tips on making it more approachable are spot on. Funnily enough I just wore my leather pencil skirt to work yesterday and did an OOTD: http://t.co/W3k0JWl7. I work at a marketing agency that is a little more laid back, so I maybe wouldn't wear it to say... a law firm.
ReplyDeleteVery work appropriate outfit. Is the jacket new from H&M? I'm love it and not seeing it on their website. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi! It's from their trend line about a month or two ago! Hope you find it!
DeleteI think your outfit looks great for work. Unfortunately, I work in finance with a bunch of old men, who I think would mock me for a similar outfit.
