Happy Wednesday!

I spent the evening at the Asian Art Museum for the west coast launch of luxury Korean skincare line Sulwhasoo (Neiman Marcus San Francisco).  Now suitably educated (better late than never!) and armed with a beautiful bag of samples, I'm going to take the next big step in skin care... i.e. start treating my skin with the same investment and attention I treat my closet.  Don't laugh - it's true!  ;)

The timeliness of this education is perfect, I was contemplating what seems like a pretty major investment in skincare by going with Revive (this one in particular).  I saw amazing results from samples I received just a few weeks ago.  My skin tends to be on the oily side, definitely prone to blemishes and for the most part it's not my favorite feature (my Bobbi Brown foundation does wonders for it though!).  We'll see how this goes!  I'm pretty sure that either way I go, it's going to be an improvement.

Please share in the comments!  What's your skincare regimen and is there a skincare line or product you swear by?

PS: Lipstick is Estee Lauder in Bitten Fig.  It's been on my lips nonstop for months now - a favorite.

I just started to use Clarisonic and absolutely love it. Skin feels so much cleaner and softer, not harsh on the skin at all. Just feel good that at the end of the day, all the makeup is gone.

  9. I absolutely love Kate Somerville. I use her Nourish Daily Moisturizer, Line Release Under Eye Repair Cream, and her SPF 55 Sunscreen Serum. I've always had trouble with dry skin around my nose and hairline during the fall and winter, but her moisturizer is the best I've every tried! Neiman Marcus carries the line and will give you samples to try. I highly recommend!!!

  15. I just started using Natura Bisse and although it was quite an investment, I'm very happy with it! The best investment I've ever made for my skin was getting my Dermatologist's prescription for Renova!! I went from having a few small breakouts to clear skin in just a few days of using it. It's definitely an investment at $185/tube but it's money well spent since my skin is now completely clear!!!

  16. Love your style, Anh! You always get it right and I admire the looks you pull together. I've also been paying closer attention to skin care regimen because of similar reasons. I absolutely love Merle Norman's Tinted Moisturizer for overall coverage plus spf. I've recently started using Glymed's anti-aging exfoliant masque which my skin is loving. You're right, it's an investment! But worth it!

  17. I get so excited when my favorite fashion bloggers do posts on skincare and beauty LOL! You guys look so lovely everyday - it's nice to get some insight on what works for you :-)

In terms of skincare - I have to be really careful about what moisturiser/face wash I use, otherwise I break out. For 2 years now I've been using Cetaphil bar soap, the Clarisonic and Neutrogena oil-free moisturiser. I've been using the Clarisonic for 3 years now - and I never get blackheads in my t-zone anymore.

I'd love to use some anti-aging stuff (retin-A or Vitamin C) but anytime I try something new - it breaks me out, so I just stick to my simple routine LOL!

Actually, the best skincare products I use are not actually beauty products. 1 - water, 2 - sleep, and 3 - cod liver oil. The Beauty Editor Canada blog turned me on to C.L.O. and I will take it for the rest of my life!

I have always had oily skin prone to the odd pimple here and there and searched for years for the right way to deal with it.

  30. I actually use Sulwhasoo BB cream. It has a thick texture and keeps my skin looking dewy and hydrated for hours. I agree, sometimes it does take a bit of splurging and experimenting to see what products work for your skin but its worth it. I have the same skin type as yours. I suggest using organic and gentle products that are not oil-based. Kiehl's is great :)

  33. Mario Badescu products work wonders for my skin. I am also prone to blemishes and have combo/oily skin. Badescu products control the blemishes better than the harsh and expensive stuff my dermatologist would prescribe. Also Trader Joe's Facial Cleaning Pads are amazing - it's scary how much dust/dirt is still on your skin after washing!

  38. My car got broken into and along with that, my entire makeup bag was gone as well. Trying to see a silver lining, I got a whole new makeup "wardrobe" and I found many things that work, specifically my moisturizer. When I moved to SF over a year ago, my face had so many blemishes I couldn't stand it. I went into Sephora and this was the first product they told me to get. I bought it, and I SWEAR I haven't had a single zit in over a month. I HIGHLY recommend it. http://www.olehenriksen.com/p-26-sheer-transformation.aspx

  41. If your skin is blemish prone (which becomes annoying once you're no longer a teenager!), you may want to try a very simple and cheap option (you can find it in any CVS or Walgreens) called PanOxyl. It's a very small line and I've never seen advertising for it, but apparently, it's all word of mouth. It's amazing! They have different strengths, and of course you have to find the right use regime for you (I, for example, use it every other day while I shower) to avoid overdrying your skin, but it really prevents blemishes like nothing I've tried before....and I've tried EVERYTHING! So, basically, that is my one thing I cannot live without!

Love your style and blog. It's always great to find a blog that features more professional looks for those of us who work in a more corporate environment, especially since we seem to have similar styles!

  42. I started using the Bioderma cleanser which I just LOVE. You don't use any water or rinse-you use it like you would a toner. I have combo skin and this gets rid of any dirt of oil build up on my tzone very well without drying out my cheeks. Also my face used to be a bit red after washing-now I don't have any problems.

  44. You are hilarious! Applying the same type of meticulous care to your skincare as you do with other aspects of your life - I do the same exact thing.

For skincare, I wash my face nightly with Neutrogena Daily Face Rub, and then moisturize with the Body Shop's Aloe Vera Night Cream. That's all I do, and my skin has been treating me well! Also, I try to do an at-home face steam weekly, I bought the one from Bed, Bath and Beyond, and that seems to help. When it comes to skincare, less products are better for me, I think my skin needs time to just be without so much product. I used to have semi oily skin and was prone to breakouts. So now, I stick to a simple skincare routine, and it seems to be working great!

  50. The Derek Lam trousers look great on you! As do the Schutz heels!

I have a pretty strict skincare regimen, thanks both to my sister and mother, who are loyalists to their dermatologists and the ladies behind the makeup counter. I'm a bit of a beauty junkie, but have found over the years that some things work really well on Asian (particularly Vietnamese) skin. I have combination skin, but am really sensitive to products, so I have to be extra picky. I switch up products from time to time, but these are my staples:

    1. Kiehls - They're a great, inexpensive brand that really works. I have their Midnight Recovery Oil (a plus if you're traveling a lot), Rosa Artica (for the colder, dryer nights in LA), their Vitamin C serum, and their calendula toner. I am currently also using their Acai cleanser, but it tends to be dry out my skin, so I might save it for summer.

    2. Dessert Essence - My best friend swears by organic products, and her skin feels like baby's bottom. Dessert Essence is a vegan, organic product, with very basic ingredients. I bought it at Whole Foods, and like it.

    3. Sekkisei Emulsion - This product is amazing. It's from Asia, and has made a big difference on the texture of my skin. I think sometimes western products tend to be too harsh on Asian skins; this emulsion is very similar to a serum and is so light, you can hardly feel it on your skin after rubbing some on.

    4. Revale Skincare - This brand has been a big beauty investment for me. Like Revive, it does not come at a friendly price! But, CoffeeBerry is a strong antioxidant that has done wonders for the fine lines that are starting to show under my eye. We ordered ours through our dermatologist, but you can find it online as well.

    Hope this helps!

  51. I'm in the process of revamping my skincare routine - I just did a post about it on my blog, here: http://projectswatch.blogspot.com/2012/02/skincare-project-beginnings.html

It hasn't been enough time to know if I like the new products yet though! The one thing I absolutely swear by is jojoba oil for removing makeup. It's really great - it removes everything really easily and leaves my skin so soft and smooth.

  52. to be honest: i use nivea Q10 for night and for the day only cream with sunblocker, I think protecting against sun is the most important. And I use an eye anti wrinkle cream from nivea Q10 too, and I'm quite happy with these simple and quite cheap things - even if my skin is quite difficult sometimes. Do you f.e. know weleda? that's far to much smell for me, it definitely smells great, but I don't like having a particular smell in my nose all over the day without any possibility to get rid of it. But I'm always open to try new things!
Please share your experience too! For exemple I'd love to know how I could order this skincare brand?

  58. I have read your blog for ages (I think we have very similar styles and since I work in a suits only environment, it's helpful to see a fashion blogger wear work wear) and have never felt compelled to comment before, but I just had to jump in to say that I absolutely swear by Sulwhasoo - it has changed my skin dramatically! Definitely not placebo effect, because I first starting using it when a friend went on a business trip to Seoul and brought back the samples from his hotel. He didn't want them so gave them to me and I, not knowing what they were, starting using them because they were free :) I immediately saw a big difference in my skin and started getting compliments on my skin out of the blue. Only then did I google the brand name and see that the products were rather (for me) expensive and exclusive! I live in Washington, DC and can't buy the products here, but now religiously buy Sulwhasoo off of ebay - would't go without it! I'll keep watching your blog to see what you think of it. And by the way, since I'm already writing a long rambling post for the first time ever, keep up the great work on your blog - especially the work wear. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to peep into your life.
