As with everything when you do it enough in life, I've learned quite a lot when it comes to traveling and packing. For me, there's really only one simple rule and it's this: carry-on only. Too many bags have been lost and found by various airlines (a disappointing 24 hours later) and when you're traveling on a tight schedule, waiting for baggage claim is just not efficient. I travel light, and it's made my travel significantly easier. The packing? Not so much. :)
Here's what I've packed in my under-the-seat carry-on for my November beach vacation:
- H&M Snood: The perfect throw-over-your-shoulders solution for cold window seats on the plane
- Macbook Pro: Recently encased in a clear shell by Speck
- iPhone
- Stella McCartney Sunglasses & Case: My go-to pair of late
- Various rings and bracelets and their own protective pouch
- Hair claw
- Reading material: Elle had just arrived, so it was the lucky one
- iPad: Are three forms of wifi-capable, blogging-enabling gear really required? Absolutely! :)
- Packable Fendi beach bag
- Lanvin heels for resort dinners
- Caudalie Beauty Elixer: Recommended by a friend, it does wonders for post-airplane "air"
- Ahava lotion: To battle the dryness
- Estee Lauder Bitten Fig: This red shade is on my lips 75% of the time, the other 25% I'm wearing Revlon's Wild Orchid (bright pink)
- Kiehl's Lip Balm: A must when I'm on the beach
- Eclipse gum: Always fully stocked at home
- Keys
- Louis Vuitton Clutch / Purse / Crossbody bag / Wallet: It does it all and it's compact. No brainer
- Lo & Sons O.G. Travel bag (courtesy of): This is the ultimate travel bag (and yes, it fit all of the above plus my DSLR camera!)
Next up? What's In My [totally amazing 4-wheel] Roller Bag. Stay tuned. :)

I'm with you!! I carry my LV Never Full with everything (including a smaller clutch/wristlet) in it as my 'purse' sized carry on and one roller bag carry on. Especially for a beach vacation, swimsuits and sundresses just don't take up much room :)
ReplyDeleteAll that in ONE bag, that is one handy tote! Loving your shoes btw!

ReplyDeleteGreat post!
ReplyDeleteI love the Lo & Sons travel bag... adorable. I love seeing what people keep in their bags!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had acquired the skill of packing light! Hopefully I will do in the near future to save time and my back!

Love having a nosey in peoples bags!!

I love traveling, but dread the packing up process sometimes. Everytime I think I packed enough it always seems to be too much. Now I've learned just to bring 3-4 outfits and rotating the pieces. Although, I haven't quite mastered the carryon bag..... yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteI travel a LOT in general/for my job and posts like these are very helpful. I've been looking for a nice, spacious hand/travel bag. This one is phenomenal! And no, you can't have enough wifi-capable blogging buddies.

That packable Fendi beach bag is so clever! Love those Lanvin heels too. Thanks for giving us a sneak peek into your bag - my nosiness is sated for the day!

Great post! I'm living in and traveling around Europe for the next several months, so I really need to perfect my carry-on packing skills. Looking forward to the next installment!

Ahava is the best! I love their product line, especially the dead sea scrubs!
ReplyDeleteNever travelled with just carry ons! I'm a way to heavy packer I always have too much stuff with me :-)

This is really good to see and learn from! I haven't travelled much so far, but when I did this summer I had such a terrible experience luggage-wise (as in, my luggage was lost for an entire week!!!!) that I'm now debating whether to ever take it on a plane with me again. :P I think a roller bag and a hand luggage will be the way to go, so I can't wait for the next post about this! :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I am a heavy packer but I should really pack lightly. Love this post!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be my go-to when I leave for my trip in the beginning of the new year. :)
ReplyDeleteVery practic ideas!

I need to take some tips from you because I'm such an overpacker!! I'll work on improving those skills when my next vacation rolls around!! :)

I'm a carry-on only gal too and can easily pack for two weeks in Asia with just my Tumi 22"! Trying on outfits before they make it into the suitcase prevents me from packing "mistakes" and unnecessary articles that I know I won't wear, leaving room to pick up a few souvineers :)

This is a great post, Anh! I'm headed to Europe for 10 days in a carry on only. Quite the packing predicament, especially when the wether is going to be so cold, brrr! Anyways, can't wait to see your next post, though I wish it had come a couple of days ago, as I'm leaving for the airport in a few hours, haha. :)
ReplyDeletecute blog darling, i follow you:)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE those shoes. Wow are they gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI always want to pack that lightly for my trips, but I get nervous and always end up packing way more jewelry than I could possibly wear, more makeup than I use daily and more like 3 or 4 magazines and 5 pairs of sunglasses. One day I'll learn :)
Have fun on your trip!

You are so well organized! I generally travel with my medium sized Ferregammo satchel but I am definitely a minimalist when it comes to travelling.
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing how people pack! I have yet to master it :) P.S. Visit my blog for a Sorrelli jewelry giveaway!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love these choices and its always interesting to see how everyone else manages travelling. Def will be following your blog now I've discovered it!!

I have been to LA, New York, Vegas (5 times), Vermont, Hawaii, Mexico, and Napa--all within the last 9 months and I still fail at packing. I can never narrow down my outfits, and I always "have" to have my essentials. But then again, I consider everything an essential. I am on the hunt for the perfect and fashionable travel bag that can sustain some wear and tear--because my Louis Vuitton doesn't deserve such abuse. I'll take a look at the one you recommended. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteDo you have the O.G. or the O.M.G bag from Lo and Sons? I was actually just getting ready to purchase a bag for my mom for Christmas. Not sure what size to go with.
ReplyDeletewhat a fun post! can't wait to see what's in your rolly bag :)

ReplyDeleteThat is a really great travel bag, I think I need it.

such a perfect travel bag...kinda wish it wasn't like $300 though =( love the look in your bag though, great post!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading this while sitting in the Detroit airport waiting to catch a flight back home! My travel bag is certainly not as glamorous as yours, but you're absolutely right. Space is at a priority when traveling and it's imperative to travel lightly. I can get four full working outfits into a carry on bag and I avoid checking a bag at all costs!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing what people carry in their bags and even more so what they pack when they're travelling! I'm an awful packer! This really helps seeing you lay all your out can't wait for the next post!

That's unbelievably streamlined! I don't think I can do that. I'm OCD about the what ifs.

Tres chic! The bag looks like a more practical version of the YSL Oversized Muse. Can't wait to see what is in your rolling bag...
ReplyDeleteGreat post! It is so, so inspiring! You've thought about everything! =)

Hi Anh,
ReplyDeleteAre you sure that's the OG from Lo & Sons?
My understanding is that only the OMG comes with a crossbody strap. There isn't much of a difference between the two except for a bit of size (the OG is 1" wider & 1.5" taller than the OMG) & the crossbody strap. Can you please confirm?
I love seeing what everyone packs; I'm also fanatical about carrying on. Years of flying all over Europe on the bargain airlines that only let you have ONE carry on case (purse in suitcase)!
ReplyDeleteamazing items!!! and very organized!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://profdrskinnybitch.blogspot.com/
This is great! Any advice on packing light for cold destinations? Sweaters and boots are so bulky!
ReplyDeleteI also carry on nearly everything- jewelry, makeup, reading material, camera and other electronics, expensive clothing items. My luggage has been lost twice so I learned to carry on all valuables and essentials!
ReplyDeletegreat post :)

Gotta love neat and organized packing! Love big bags that can be packed away really small (fendi bag). ;0)

We have the same Lo & Sons bag! :) But I have the brown. It's amazing for light travel/ work - isn't it?

Hi - Just wondering how you can fit your dSLR camera in there too? I am assuming you had a bag over your camera to put in your carry on? That is always my biggest problem is that once I have my camera bag, I am done. Thank You!
ReplyDeletei couldn't name half the stuff that are in my bad
ReplyDeleteHi Anh
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your travel tips. I picked up on the fact that you have a clear Speck laptop shell and have now invested in one for my new Macbook Air. I'm so pleased that I can keep my Air protected whilst still being able to see it's beauty! Sometimes it's the little touches that make travelling so much more enjoyable.
