I've been on a hunt (for what seems like ages) for the perfect work-appropriate sheath dress. Preferably with sleeves, not too tight, knee-length and cut from a substantial and elegant fabric. Conservative in black or navy or gray. On sale or reasonably priced. That's not asking for too much, is it? I'm still sheath-less, so perhaps it is!
Do you have the perfect sheath dress? What made it perfect for you? And, where did you find it? =)

I have a dress from BR but it's sleeveless. I'm currently on the hunt for something with sleeves.
ReplyDeleteI have a beautiful Super 120s sheath dress from JCrew in black from several years ago. And snagged it on sale believe it or not!
ReplyDeleteI found a great sheath dress this past winter at...ready for it...TARGET! It's sleeveless, black and came with a wimpy black belt that I took off. I love it because when I wear it, I feel like Victoria Beckham in it. Is that wrong!?!

ReplyDeleteSheath dress is me...I have so many of them in my closet in different colors, some with sleeves like the one seen on your blog, and some are sleeveless. Two of them are Jil Sanders, and I got them for a pretty good prices...where? During the last-call sale at Neiman Marcus. Consider the retail prices were in $2000, I got each of them for somewhere between $400 each. Great materials, great cut, great fit for business meeting, work, ect.
ReplyDeleteBeside most of other sheath dresses are sleevless, but they still work appropriate. Dolce & Gabbana or D&G make nice fitted sheath dresses..always wait until the sale to buy.
I don't mind spending little more on a nice classic sheath dresses with great materials and cut because they are classic, timeless as long as you can still fit in them even years from now.
I really like the Lela Rose Short Sleeve Tucked Front Sheath though, love the salmon color, the side pockets and gathered neckline details. I am in HK this week for work so let's hope I will find some goodies to bring home.
ReplyDeletethat dress IS perfect for work :) great pick!

thanks,

I love sheath dresses for work. I completely agree to begin with conservative colors and pick details you like. I like a waistband, and sleeveless (easier to wear with cardis and blazers). I have a few from BR, a couple from Talbots and like Pamela, a black one in cotton sateen from Target.
ReplyDeleteBTW my hubs is an ortho!
I just bought a sheath at Target. It's sleeveless but it was only $14.99. I love LOVE it. Fits me like a glove. It came in black, pink, and navy but I got it in gray. I'm a firm believer in shying away from vibrant/rich colors when you're buying cheaper items.
ReplyDeleteIt has a higher neckline and looks wonderful with pearls, belted or not, with a cardigan or on it's own.
Last time I looked at Talbots website they had quite a few sheath dresses, very work appropriate. I've been searching for one for a while now, it's hard to find dresses that are knee lenght.
