- 3 days in San Diego (to visit my sister, niece and nephew!)
- 5 days in Boston (my first time! any Boston folks? Would love to hear your suggestions and recommendations!)
- 4 days in Hawaii (girl's trip!)
Pre-Fall shoes have been making their way onto the e-stores!
What are YOU looking forward to?

I am looking forward to folding myself up and shoving myself into your suitcase, thanks.

JEALOUS!
I'm in Boston! You should definitely hit up Newbury Street to go shopping, and the Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market area near the waterfront is also fantastic (more great shopping!).
ReplyDeleteLOL Chloe! I am looking forward to an LA trip to visit my sister, and my trip to Europe! Yay for lots of fun trips!
ReplyDeleteI echo Amy about shopping along Newbury St. There's also plenty of restaurants / cafes along that offer outdoor dining. You're visiting at the perfect time when it's not freezing nor too hot!
ReplyDeleteAlso be sure to grab a lobster roll or eat fresh lobsters / oysters along the waterfront : )
Ahn, highly recommend the Freedom Trail in Boston, it involves a lot of walking but is a great way to see the city! I am looking forward to my trip to Tahiti with my hubby.
ReplyDelete-Ava
I'm looking for my 10 day trip to Europe in June!
ReplyDeleteBostonian here! If you want to hit up some smaller boutiques, I suggest heading over to the South End. Vintage stores, designer boutiques, bistros and great restaurants.
ReplyDeleteSo many great trips everyone is taking, yay!
ReplyDeleteHawaii with the girls sounds amazing!!
Those Prada shoes are TDF. Drool, big time.
You must go to Mike's on the North End of Boston for cannolis :)
This sounds absolutely amazing!! I would be looking forward to it too!!
ReplyDeletewhen are you coming to Boston? Faneuil Hall, Barking Crab, Boston Common, Haru by the Prudential and ask to try the Szechuan Buttons. um... Newbury Street is nice to walk around too.
ReplyDeleteMike's Pastry on North End has the best CANOLLIS!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even finish the s/s buy .... guess I have to break my bank after all. :)
ReplyDeleteYou look very chic in previous Hm top!!
so I meant to only write a little, but I started typing about all my favorite places when I lived in Boston and couldn't stop! this ended up being over the world limit so it's going into two posts :) anyway, I hope you enjoy my stream of consciousness and all your trips!
ReplyDeleteGetting around:
taxis: fastest way to get around
T (subway)/bus: easier to navigate than NYC's system, but closes down early (12:30am-1am)
pedicab: when it's nicer out, there are pedicabs that will take you to your destination- there's no fare, just tip the driver!
walk: it's beautiful to walk around, but watch out- those cobblestone/brick roads can be hell for heels!
Shopping:
Boylston/Newbury St- lots of great boutique stores
Copley Place- higher end stores as well as Barney's and Neiman's
Prudential Center- random stores plus Saks
Faneuil Hall- nice to walk around, but for shopping it has a lot of stores that you can also find in Newbury/Copley/Pru
you might already know this, but there is NO SALES TAX on clothes in Boston! this is what I miss the most about living there! (6.25% sales tax on shoes, jewelry, purses, etc.) also, if you are a student (i.e. have a student ID), some stores offer % off your purchase- 20% off at Club Monaco, 15% off at Banana Republic, 10% off reg priced items at J. Crew...
seafood:
ReplyDeleteAtlantic Fish Co (Back Bay) I LOVE this place! I used to frequent Legal Seafood until I discovered Atlantic Fish. my favorites are the crab cake for app and wild salmon for entree, but you really can't go wrong with anything!
Daily Catch (North End) the lobster fra diavolo for 2 is really yummy. I also love their squid ink pasta in the garlic/calamari sauce (it's a bit oily but oh so delicious!). no reservations and cash only though.
oysters: (island creek oysters = winner!)
Neptune Oysters (North End) they don't take reservations, so I've never been there but everyone raves about Neptune. bonus is that it's in the North End, so it'd be easy to stop over at Mike's Pastries for some canolis!
B&G Oysters (South End) great food, great oysters- you can also sit at the bar and watch the chefs cook or in their outdoor patio!
Other:
Sibling Rivalry (South End) (American): 2 chef brothers using the same ingredients (lamb, duck, etc) and making their own menus. cute restaurant, good food, and right next to Beehive (jazz club)
Stella (South End) (Italian): affordable, yummy, nice atmosphere inside- just oddly located across the street from some housing projects...
sushi:
Oiishi (South End) everything here is amazing but it is definitely a pricey restaurant. toro truffle maki is one of my 2 favorite rolls ever.
Douzo (Back Bay) more affordable than Oiishi, and I prefer their sushi and menu over Haru's. the Phoenix roll here is my other favorite roll! you can elect to sit at the bar area- I think the wait is shorter but you can still get the full menu. or if you're in a hurry, they also have a special room just for takeout orders!
tapas:
Toro (South End) definitely try their sangria, hangar steak, duck, and the grilled corn-their house special!
Tapeo (Newbury St.) great location and the best part is, they have a recession special- sit at the bar and get their tapas for only $5 each! lamb chops are delicious- and so is everything else!
pizza:
Figs (Beacon Hill) you can do half/half pizzas here- haven't tried the fig with prosciutto but all my friends love it and it's their most popular pizza. I love mushrooms and my favorite is the portabello!
lounges/after-dinner drinks: (no cover, free seating, no college crowds!)
Top of the Hub (Back Bay) this place is pricey, but the view up here cannot be beat and I have taken all first-time Boston visitors here. it's up on the 52nd floor of the Prudential building. the food, while tasty, is way overpriced for what you get. if you come here for desserts, there is a $25 minimum per person to sit in the lounge area at a table. otherwise there is a bar (limited space), with no minimum. the bar area is small and tends to be crowded- also, it is set back a bit so it doesn't have as good of a view.
mini-bar (Back Bay) inside the Copley Square Hotel, plenty of seating, good lychee martinis. noise level is perfect if you're trying to chat, and the best part is that it's usually not packed on weekends
Bond (Financial District) inside the Langham Hotel, great decor, lots of seating, louder music, but this place draws quite a crowd on weekends- expect a line if you show up after 1015PM... one bartender there has made me delicious mojitos with a dark rum that I've never been able to remember the name of...
the bar at the W hotel (Theater District) this is a new hotspot in Boston and there's usually a line by 1030PM on weekends. I recommend the raspberry lychee bellinis (and I usually hate these sweet drinks!). You can also order desserts from Market, the hotel's restaurant.
Beehive (South End) jazz club, good place for after dinner drinks
Post390 (Back Bay) this place used to be a post office, hence the name... standard nice place to chat, eat and have a drink
have fun!
WOW - THANK YOU SO MUCH LADIES!!! I'm so so so excited. I've taken note of all your recs!!!! =) =) xoxo
ReplyDeletei just want to throw in my boston recs too! some of my favorite places are in harvard square. there are some great boutiques there. my favorites are mint juelup, passport(for all your traveling, this would be a good one for you!) and a new addition called 40 winks (lingerie!) plus harvard square is so fun to walk around and hang out in in the summer!
ReplyDeletehave fun here in bean town!
