Wearing Now: Going Leopard...?

Good morning friends!

There's a board meeting today so our entire executive management team is off-site.  I figured it would be a good opportunity for me to get some wear out of this leopard print skirt (while trying to tone it down as much as possible).  And let's be clear:  I would never wear this skirt on an important day or for meetings.

You see, I'm really scared of leopard print.  It's always about two steps away from looking all wrong.  But sometimes, you just have to try something and see how you feel by day's end.  That's what's so fun about clothes - it's all trial and error.  And if it turns out to be an error, there's always tomorrow!  And sometimes, you discover that something you thought you couldn't wear, actually works.

Ruffle Long-Sleeved Blouse - BCBG
Leopard Print Skirt - H&M (about 3 years old and probably never worn until today?)
Boyfriend Blazer - DKNY
Tights - DKNY
Belt - Urban Outfitters
Booties - Giuseppe Zanotti
Purse - Chanel

Let me know what you think - and what is something you discovered you were actually comfortable wearing after you finally tried it?

  1. Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I recently discovered your blog and I'm hooked - I so look forward to reading your new posts (and spent quite a bit of time backreading your old ones as well)! Leggings were something I NEVER thought I would wear, but now I'm obsessed. They are so versatile and look adorable with a cute pair of flats or boots (and no scrunching problems like with skinny jeans). Although, I am not comfortable enough with myself to wear a shorter top, so I always wear tops that could technically be short dresses. I'm not sure how cute leggings look on me, but I love em!
p.s. I'm also from San Diego and am now living in SF (well, Palo Alto, but close enough) - small world! :)

  2. I used to think I could never pull off skinny jeans...now those are the only jeans that I wear! I thought they hugged the body too much and would make my thighs look WRONG. But i love them now!

I read that you just started to wear leggings, and when I was at Levi's, they have this thing called the legging pant..so it fits like a legging...meaning that it really hugs all your curves (in all the right places of course!) but the material is thicker, so you don't have to freeze to death...you should try them out. I got a pair and can't stop wearing them!

  5. I can't think of what I wouldn't wear and now I love or think I can pull them off except for mini dresses...I used to hate wearing mini dress, only sheath dresses and pencil skirts, and now I love mini dresses.....You look perfect. I love your outfit, you wear it well, and I especially love the color of the BCBG top you're wearing today...

  7. I'm not entirely sure how I stumbled upon your blog, but I'm extremely glad that I did. I feel like my work wardrobe consists of the same 8 or 9 outfits and that I'm insanely boring. Hopefully, I'll see what you're wearing and decide to kick my wardrobe up a notch.

  11. I know what you mean about being scared of animal prints but I do love them. I think your outfit works really well. I love the mix of red with the animal print.

  12. I love this look! I have this secret fascination with animal prints and always buy them, but for some reason, they just end up sitting inside my closet. I think it has to do with the fear of looking like a cougar well before my time.

However, with the recent collection from Rodarte for Target, I think it's pretty appropriate for young women to wear animal print, so I'll probably pull one out from the back closet. I like the red shirt you've worn with this outfit! It really tones down the skirt.

  14. i love animal print. you pull it off very well - definitely classy!

and in response to your question, it would have to be matte red lipstick! i just started wearing it last year, and now it feels weird NOT to be wearing a shade of red. as i mentioned on my blog, my favorite is MAC Russian Red, but Revlon Matte in Really Red is also good, as well as Nars in Cruella (a little darker; not as bright). the consistency of MAC's lipstick is my favorite though.
